MARIANNE FAITHFULL - RUNNING FOR OUR LIVES

Hello and welcome back... Been looking for this song for years, exept??

This song was only known to me by an Australian Actress / Singer 'Jo Beth Taylor' who did a version of this song back in 1986 and was aired on TV show 'Hey Hey, Its Saturday'... The video has long disappeared.

And, I found it again, the original version sung by Marianne Faithfull.

Its a powerful ballad, sweet but haunting at the same time.

I'm glad i found it again.. Enjoy

D3AR EN3MY - RANS3M NOTE & B3YOND

Hello and welcome back... One of my most Fav albums.

From Melbourne (Australia), the band 'Dear Enemy' smashed out onto the charts with the track 'Computer One'.
While this was a good thing to get the band recognition, they failed to reach the same heights with following songs 'The Good Life', Day to Day & 'Kids on the Street'

The album 'Ransom Note' was released in 1984 and made it to #15 on the Australian Music Charts.

It was recorded in the U.S. by Capitol / EMI records and was only released on Vinyl / Cassette

Around 1999 EMI released 'Ransom Note & Beyond', a collection of the album Ransom Note and nine other unreleased tracks on CD

This version below is a CD Version (from my library) and is in AAC format. (320kbps)

GENESIS - INVISIBLE TOUCH TOUR 1987 (Live Concert - Wembley)

Hello and welcome back... 2 of the best concerts in the 80s.

1. Genesis - Invisible Touch Tour at Wembley Stadium 1987.
2. Queen - Live at Wembley 1986

If i had a time machine, these are the two concerts i would go see, a pure stellar moment in time.

This video is from a DVD and sounds wicked, video is ok at 240p but is still worth cranking the headphones for a electric performance.

TIME FOR A NEW MUSIC PLAYER / PHONE

Hello and welcome back... Thought this might interest you.

For years I have been carrying 2 devices with me... My mobile phone (Apple 3GS) and my Ipod Touch (5th Gen).
But it was time for a change, it was time to merge the devices together.

I'm not rich, far from it.
Because of injury's i sustained in a car / work accident, i am now on the disability pension and in considerable pain every day.
When i get the chance to get something new like a new phone, (my last phone was 10 years old), I have to make a choice, that is going to last about 5-7 years before i can get another one.
So it has to be the right choice.

Music is my lifeline. When pain & depression kicks in, I find music helps... Alot
Moving on...

I was an Apple fan boy.
I loved all thing Apple, but these last few years i have changed my mind.
Why?
I had the chance to play with my sons Iphone 7.
First thing i notice is that 'No Headphone Socket'
"But you can use a adapter" was my sons explanation but if you want to charge the phone you can't use the headphones.
I had a listen to some music using the adapter and can't say i was impressed, in fact, i would say the old Ipod Touch sounded better, it sounded 'crisper'
Then there's no support for 24Bit Flac files.
Sure you can download the Onkyo app but you have to pay for it (the free version doesn't support FLAC)
Another thing that i found using the Iphone 7 and the Ipod touch, everything is the same, same menu, same layout.
I just found the whole thing 'boring'
Take a look at the Ipod Classic. It looked different, felt different...
You can go from a Iphone 5 to a Iphone 8 and apart from a speed difference, not much has changed, not music wise... It all sounds the same.

Then there is Itunes. Its still doesn't (to this day) support FLAC files or 24Bit Audio.

But I still like Itunes mostly because the AAC file format sounds better than MP3.
MP3 tends to sound 'watery' if that makes sense on some tracks.

Moving On

Doing weeks of research, I came to the realization that my new phone would have to be an Android phone.
Android supports FLAC and some even supports 24BIT Audio.
It also supports expansion cards for turning your 64GB phone into a 256GB phone... Something Apple refuses to do.

MY WISH LIST

1. HTC 10 (Has a 24Bit DAC (Digital Audio Converter) and Headphone Amp built in).. Cost $450
2. LG V20 /V30 (32Bit Quad DAC built in) Cost around $799- $999
3. ZTE AXOM 7 (32Bit AKM DAC) Cost $380 (very limited software in phone)
4. SONY XPERIA XZ Cost $550 - 650
5. SAMSUNG GALAXY S8 Cost $800-900

MY CHOICE? = SONY XPERIA XZ .

Why did i choose the Sony?

3 Reasons why I chose the Sony over all the others

1. The Xperia supports 24Bit Flac audio (most HI-Res Audio that you buy from various online stores are downloaded in 24BIT FLAC) and no need to buy additional apps. It just works.
A gold HR will show in the corner of your album art.

2. A clever invention called DSEE HX... What the heck is that i hear you ask??
DSEE HX is built in to the Sony music player and upscales your existing music to near 24bit sound.
This is seriously amazing... It really brings your music to life.
How to explain it = It expands and enhances the little sounds in the background of your music. Those nearly impossible synths, guitars, etc, etc that you can hardly hear due to compression suddenly are noticeable again.
It really has to be heard to understand what i'm talking about.

The thing is, when you have been listening for a while with DSEE HX turned on and then you turn it off in the menu setting, It really makes a difference... Your original music sounds very...Flat.

                                                                       OR
From Sony's Website = The Digital Sound Enhancement Engine HX (DSEE HX) upscales your compressed digital music files (MP3, ACC, ATRAC and WMA) and takes them closer to the quality of High-Resolution Audio.
By restoring the high-range sound lost in the compression process, DSEE HX produces your digital music files in rich, natural sound, closer to the quality of the original recording.

3. Headphone Optimization
What this clever thing does, it listens to your music for around 10secs while your listening and adjusts the sound coming into your headphones.
I use two different set of headphones.
1.Apple 'bud' headphones
2. Sony Noise Reduction headphones.
I find i use the apple headphones alot, they are easy to put in your ears, not like those other phones that you push into your ear canal, can't stand them... horrid
After about 10sec of using the bud headphones, you can hear the optimization kick in... Suddenly there's more bass, more clarity.... they sound more 'fuller'
Funny enough, on the Sony's i prefer to turn the optimization off as it tends to take away some of the detail.
I am very impressed with the sound i get from my setup, and i am veeery picky about sound.

Sony Xperia XZ also supports LDAC = HI-Res Audio over Bluetooth (great for Bluetooth Headphones)

There is also Surround Sound settings (prob like most other Android phones) but i don't use them.

So there you have it.

If your an 80s music lover and want to breath new life into your music collection, I highly recommend the Sony Xperia XZ phone for music listening.

*** Note, this post is my own thoughts, its not sponsored by Sony or Apple.
If i love a product, i like to write about it so that someone in the same situation may enjoy reading about certain products, like i do ****

KIM WILDE - SUBURBS OF MOSCOW

Hello and welcome back... Love This

I sometimes get asked "whats was the best thing about the 80s, music wise?"

My response would be something like this video / track.

From 1984 album 'Teases and Dares' (track 3) came this song 'Suburbs of Moscow', sadly never released as a single.

Take a listen, So much energy, while not a good recording sound wise, its still amazing.

This Folks, is what i love about the 80s.

JIMI JAMISON - I'M ALWAYS HERE

Hello and welcome back... Lately iv'e been checking out some of my Fav T.V shows from the 80s & 90s. These include shows like Magnum P.I, Knight Rider, Sliders and... Baywatch.

And this is where this song comes in. You probably don't recognize the name but you will know the song 'Im always here' as the Baywatch theme.

Jimi Jamison was the frontman for 80s band 'Survivor' (think Eye of the Tiger).

Sadly in Sept 2014, Jimi died of a heart attack, he was only 63 years young

Such a mad song... Turn it up :)

NKOTB - HANGIN TOUGH (24Bit Flac) - AN INTRODUCTION TO HI-RES AUDIO

Hello and welcome back.. A Change In Direction

A few months back i did a post on Remastered music.

I believe that music is headed down two paths. The first is Streaming music.
Apple seems to be headed down this path with rumors that the Apple store will be shutting down its music store and pushing its Apple Music streaming service. I must stress that this is only a rumor but it makes sense.
The problem is with streaming is that you never really own your music. Once you stop your subscription, the music vanishes.
For some people this is ok.
On the plus side is that streaming doesn't take up much room on your device.

The second path is Hi-Res or 24Bit music.

This is something i'm really into.

To hear music the way the recording studio hears it.

To explain 24Bit Audio is like to listen to a CD. The CD music format is 16Bit/48Khz...
Now double it.

Suddenly the faint guitar sounds of a song are more predominant, you can now hear sounds that go right to the very edge of your hearing spectrum and the music sounds more natural, more alive.

The downside of 24Bit Audio is that the files are huge. One standard size album will be around 800Meg-1.3Gig.

If you like the idea of streaming, you can stream 24bit audio but your internet connection needs to be fast.

There are 2 parts to 24Bit Audio. First part is the most obvious, the Bit Rate. Basically the more 'Bits',  the more information.
Most recording studios record in 24Bit then cut out various parts to squish into a CD, but CDs are slowly becoming obsolete, its old technology.

The second part is the frequency range. For 24Bit Audio, there are 2 available = 96Khz or 192Khz
For me personally i prefer 96Khz. I tried listening to 192Khz and seriously, could not hear the difference. Some people might but i couldn't, But i could hear the difference between 16Bit and 24bit.

Try it for Yourself, Its not that hard.

The first thing you will need is a good set of Headphones.

I have a pair of Sony headphones that have a frequency range of 8hz to 24,000KHz. Most headphones don't show the frequency range as they are flat (standard 20hz - 20Khz) but Sony always has there range printed on the back of the packaging.
My Sony's as i said before is 8Hz to 24,000khz.
The bottom number is the Bass frequency (human hearing stops around 12Hz) so a headphone of 8Hz or lower then you will feel the Bass vibration and will sound more 'Punchy'
The other frequency is the high frequency. my Sony's go to 24,000Khz and this is pretty good, any higher and they will sound 'Tinny'.
20,000Khz to 24,000Khz range should sound Crisp and Vibrant.

The second thing is to look at in your quest for 24Bit audio is your computer.
Most new'ish computers have decent sound hardware and will allow 24Bit Audio.
Just search your computer in control panel for 'Sound Settings'
Mine computer has Realtek High Definition Audio listed.

Also make sure your computer has the latest audio drivers updated (Click here for Realtek Audio Drivers)

24Bit Audio is done best through Headphones so be sure you have your headphones plugged in.

Now go to your sound settings, click on your current speaker or headphone that is your current device and click on properties and a smaller box will open.
Click on the tab 'advanced' and you will see 'Default Format'.
In the drop down tab, change to '2 Channel-24Bit-9600hz (Studio Quality), you can click the 'Test' button to see if your computer can handle 24bit and if you hear the sweet bell sounds, Congratulations.
Now click 'Apply' button down the bottom and then click 'OK'
If your computer could not handle the change of setting, try to download new drivers, if you have Reaktek, listed then click the link above.

AND now to the music.

I have made a track available... NKOTB - Hangin Tough (1989)...
You can stream the track and you can download it.
Being 24Bit Audio, you should notice a more punchy Bass, various sounds going right to the edge of your headphones and the highs should be Crisp and Clean.

Take a Listen (be patient, if you have a slow connection... You may have to press play/pause button a few times)

NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK - HANGIN TOUGH (1989)

LINKS

https://soundcloud.com/timelord17 (click on more and then download)

And so this is what i want to be part of Electronic80s website to become, I believe its the future and it makes listening to the 80s, exciting again.

When you see a post with the 'Hi-Res Audio' symbol (see below) that track will be in 24Bit Audio.

The download part (if available) will be in a FLAC format.

To listen 'On The Go' you will need a music player / Phone that can handle 24Bit Audio.

I was lucky enough to get a Sony Xperia XZ phone for Christmas, (my first phone in 11 years). This phone can handle 24Bit Audio.
Apple fans have a bit more work cut out for them.
Apple, as i said earlier, are looking more at streaming and even to date, the Itunes software does not support 24Bit or even FLAC ...YET
BUT, you can still get away with it using the Onkyo music app (paid version) or the VLC app on your device.
Its a drag and drop process = Plug your device into your computer, sync with ITunes and go to the VLC or Onkyo app and drop the files into it.
It then should play.

My Sony is a similar process, just plug into computer and drop the files into the storage card part of the phone.

Hope you catch the 24Bit bug like i have. It makes listening to music like new again, being able to hear music the way it was intended.

Cheers
